So Google’s finally onto me - got me all figured out. This is a pretty funny picture, but it also got me thinking something’s up with image search…

I was going to show one of our new employees how Google has a tendency to rank images based on the surrounding text rather than Alt and file-name, and I got a surprise.
I checked the image SERPS for my name yesterday, and today they are completely different. Has anyone else noticed this? Is Google actually updating their image ranking algo?
If this is indeed a shift in their image ranking algo, from what I can see, they’re adding more weight to anchor text and normal paragraph text as opposed to earlier where the heading really made a huge difference.
Update: Weird - the results are almost back to normal now. What the heck is going on?
