MarketingSherpa, one of my favourite publications nowadays, has this piece about how the different online gambling companies market and brand their companies. It’s pretty interesting stuff, even if you’re not in the gambling industry.
I’m particularly interested in this, since I work for Bodog.com, one of the companies mentioned in this article, but more traditional marketers could probably learn a lot from their approaches, as companies in this industry has to be even more creative in their marketing efforts due to the pressure from US ustice Department on media outlets to not run ads.
Media outlets running ads for international gambling companies are protected under the Constitution, until such time as a US judge of competent authority rules otherwise. So, US media refusals to accept ads from online gambling companies is not actually a legal issue, but one of policy right now. Google, for example does not let you run any paid campaigns in their search engines, but of course there are ways to get around this as well.
