SEO Bomb Gets New Design

Filed Under: Articles, SEO, Linking Strategy

Being a web designer, I change design on my sites like normal people change socks. Ok, maybe not that often, but often enough. After only 3 months, I decided it was time to do something different, cause honestly, I wasn’t happy with it anymore.

The intentions I had with the old design was good, but it never became what I wanted it to be, so I though what the heck and re-designed the whole site.

The design is of course completely free from tables, is compatible in IE, Mozilla and Opera (I am aware of 2 bugs in Opera, and I’ll try to fix that when I have some time) and is as search engine friendly as it can be. another huge improvement over the old design is better small screen rendering for PDAs and such.

Increasing Lateral Web Site Traffic and Improving Internal Linking

One of the biggest flaws with the old design was that there was no way for people to see what other posts were available on the blog on any given sub page. The new design lists the 15 latest posts in the side bar on any given sub page, and on the front page, it lists from post #15 to #30.

Not only is this good for lateral website traffic, but it’s also good for internal linking. You’re basically telling the search engine that there’s emphasis on older posts as well. Normal blogs put a lot of emphasis on the latest news, and I didn’t want to do this.

In addition, there’s now a plugin that lists related posts in the bottom of each post. I’m pretty happy with the way this plugin works, but I’m still trying to find one that let me display it in the side bar instead. No luck so far.

Flawed Basic Site Structure

But there’s always something that bugs me about things no matter how perfect they seem - that’s in my nature. The biggest annoyance I have, and will probably always have, is the actual site structure. When I started this SEO blog, I didn’t know enough about WordPress to know how to configure things exactly the way I wanted, and no matter how where I looked, I could never find the answer for it.

Now I know a whole lot more about how to make your blog search engine friendly, but it’s too late to do something about that unless I’m going to break the whole site structure and start assing around with 301 redirects for every single article that’s being linked to. I’m not sure if I have the patience for that…

SEO Friendly WordPress Themes

I am also going to start adding free WordPress themes to my other blog, Design Bomb, so make sure to check it out from time to time. Heck, I’ll even add this theme on Design Bomb - how cool is that?

Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick update. I hope you like what you see, and if you have any questions, feedback or suggestions, please leave a comment!
